Short Film Research: ( Migrants/ Drama)

This short film was 8 minutes long and the plot was pretty easy to figure out basically there were polar bears being pushed out of their home lands due to global warming and exiled from brown bear territory being left to fend for themselves on the ocean. In the beginning of the short there was a climax point where the baby polar bear fell of the ice and into the water from the ice breaking and the mother jumps after the baby. This was a great way to start the film it immediately introduce the drama factor that a film should have lots of heart racing and anticipating moments. There was a conflict with the polar bears and the brown bears over food and the was another great way to help deliver a message. Although it is animated the film didn't use and real dialogue just animal noises such as grunts and snorts and well as instrumental music in the background.     It reminds me of how lonely many of us are. It can be interpreted as a political manifesto, ...

Short Film Research: ( Soft/ Drama )

With the intensity it carries, the short film is quite direct to the point. The short film's climax is told in a direct and unambiguous manner. Just a minute into the film, a fight between high school kids breaks out. The camera's quality is poor, and it's being held. The fighting scene in the short clip appears to have been recorded on a phone. There is a lot of yelling, which is a common feature of dramas. The other issue is that there is physical abuse among the students. The physical abuse being discussed is the shoving and punching that is taking place. The short film's quality then rises to a high level, with high key lighting. A zoom viewpoint is used in the scene where the adolescent tells his father that he got into a fight.      This captures the father's feelings, giving it a theatrical tone. This effect adds to the drama's shared aspects. The camera then shifts to an over-the-shoulder position, revealing the boy's face while his fath...

Short Film Research: ( SUBURBIA / Drama )

So the plot of the film is pretty clear and concise. The film makes it easy to identify what the plot of the story is without having to dig through our brains trying to figure out what to point of the film was. It contains the majority of the typical features of the drama genre. The short film begins with a joyful and gracious tone. Then, a few minutes into the movie, the climax occurs, which involves chases. The climax is crucial in a dramatic picture, and this one was straightforward. A shooting was the unfortunate occurrence. The film does not spare any time in stating the plot. This plot continues for the next several minutes of the movie.      The gunshot noises are loud and clear, but you can't see them. This denotes the use of non-diegetic sound in the picture. There are also a lot of high voices and screaming going on. In dramas, this is a crucial component. One of the dramatic components in our short film will be this. These are also elements...

Short Film Research: (Friday Tigers/ Drama )

The short film is approximately 17 minutes long, and the plot is quite difficult to decipher. The plot of the film is not very apparent or straightforward to the audience. It doesn't begin with any indication of what the plot might be. The scenes just move from day to day, demonstrating the various events that occur on each day. The movie never goes into great detail about why something happens or what the issue is.       It simply depicts the aftermath or consequences of the troubles that have arisen in the woman's life. However, because it is a drama, we were anticipating some sort of confrontation in the short film. There are a lot of sounds in this short clip. At the start of the movie, there is some background music playing. The background soundtrack resembles someone singing while playing an instrument.      The train on the rails makes a noticeable but not excessive amount of noise. Then, little sounds were strengthene...

Research: How to Make a Short Film

This educational video gave me a better understanding of how to make our own movies. While viewing, I discovered that there were some topics I already understood, such as when they were discussing film making. However, the "How to Make a Short Film" video provided me with a wealth of new information that will aid me in the production of our short film. This video includes production and post-production advice from a film specialist. One point that stood out to me was when the expert said not to do it if you can't pull it off. Another suggestion is to play with the audience's emotions and minds. The expert emphasizes that it is either all or nothing, and that nothing should be done halfheartedly. This reminds me of the phrase "Go large or go home," which means "Go big or go home."      The film expert explanation reminded me of this statement because it indicates it's all or nothing. Adding needless elements to a scene because they appear t...

Comparing Le Jetee, the short, and 12 monkeys, the full length movie

Part 1: So from the video we learned the 12 monkeys is supposed to be a remake of Le Jetee. However, nothing could ever be recreated the way Le Jetee was. We believe the elements of mis-en scene camera shots and angles were expressed in le jetee that weren't quite the same in 12 monkeys. The information that We gather from this video included the a dispassionate tone carried in Le jette from the film narrator. It added an accentuation in the audio to the rest of the film and images. The exaggerated audio such as percussion sounds and a pounding heartbeat. These tools created a more dreamlike film with the genre being a sci-fi filled film this plot included a mediation of the passage of time. They did this by using closeup shot to exaggerate images and characters faces and emotions expressed throughout the film helped create the dreamlike idea that was portrayed. It gave an outlook on war times before during and after of a war through the life of a man ( a slave) that...

Comparing 9, the short, and 9, the full-length movie

The Short: My first impressions of the 9 short film was a bit confusing and when things slowly began to make sense in the end we were left with a weird cliff hanger and although it didn't make much sense seeing the numbers stitched onto other ghost dolls backs before the screen goes out helps establish that there is more to the story and that the is an explanation to what we were seeing. We couldn't really tell what the plot was in the beginning of the short it was hard to put two and two together but after seeing the  ghost dolls it can an appeal of an post-apocalyptic event that happened with 9 being the only survivor of his kind in the all out war. In the character development you could see that 9 was alert and nervous yet curious to find out whats going on and what he can do to survive. The character built a sense of fight or flight mode during the chaos in the short. We saw that there were lots of special effects i'm ...

Genre Choice for Film

Our short film could fall in many different genres. However, the genre we chose for our short film is drama. The three genres were action, drama, and horror that we were researched. The drama genre was the most accurate genre to describe our short film. Our short film is about a mother being verbally abusive which means a lot of shouting, bullying, and loud noises going on.       These are some of the many things that contribute to the drama genre according to our research. The inspiration for our decision is quite simple and obvious. Our inspiration for choosing this genre was our research. We compared all the elements and analyzed all the elements within the genres. Then, we compared that to the elements of our short film and saw the drama genre was the best fit.       From the process of researching all three to just choosing one was a learning experience. It shows how much in common film genres ha...

Genres We Would Like to Research

There are three genres we would like to do some research on before moving forward. Action, horror and drama. The reason for me choosing these is because we definitely have a feel of one of these types of genres being what category we set our short film to fall under. We know more about the other genres and saw these types as expanding my ind in the world of genres. We typically stick to romance and comedy kind of movies.        So, We made sure to do something out of our comfort zone and try to do something a little non traditional. We feel as though this is going to be worth it and that we may find something we truly like for the idea of my film this year. Hopefully these genres turn out to be the perfect kind for our film. We will use these to help me make a decision later on but this research will definitely be a good mind opener for future references. It should also make for good examples to go off of when its time to find inspiration t...

What's the Pitch??!!

So my partner Ronneka and I decided that we needed to figure out a pitch but I knew I wanted it to be action filled and dramatic. So I came up with three different pitches:       The first pitch is about a verbally abusive and toxic mother who mistreats her daughter that looks to her friends for emotional support throughout the abuse.     The second pitch was about a girl who's parents died in a car crash and was raised by her older male cousin who was physically abusive toward her and negligent to the victim.  The third pitch I came up with was about 3 kids who had to be raised by their older siblings since their mother was always working and left them home alone putting a strain on the relationship of the mother and the kids.      After discussing each pitch topic with one another, I decided on the first pitch. The first reason being that it is easier to display verbal abuse over physical abuse. The second reason being that ...
