Production blog: The Journey Through Time

Okay so with the last blog we talked about all the prepping and planning that happened along the way for filming and editing to begin but now we are just in the waiting stages. At some point I fell behind in the blogging but I was able to stay on top of everything and keep up with the dates. I managed to build the stories dramatics and discussed it with the group but since the last time we blogged the group has been out of contact. We have not communicated in that time since school began to get hectic and work plus other inconveniences. Everyday life problems began to get in the way which made it harder for us to stay in touch.

The stress really began to kick in this quarter. It is mentally taking atoll on all of us I can see in in the way we talk. I have been very repetitive in questions and I am sure we all are just ready for our spring break to come and save us from all the stress we're experiencing in the moment. We have our location set. Everything else is taken care of and now all we are waiting on is the dates to start filming and editing.

I believe we would most likely take two to three days to film and two to three days to edit. Most of that should be easy seeing as we made sure to prep for a longer than necessary time. It wasn't by choice but at least we were able to get everything together before we even had a date set. This allowed us ample enough time to secure our thoughts and ideas in creativity for the film. The last choices of how the opening comes out will most likely come from our editor Rohanna she is the person who is best at editing.

So, we made sure to figure out everyone's strongest points and weakest points. We were able to assist and help everyone learn something in their weakest points while others helped one another out with their strong points. Idline and I make great camera men and directors. Nishayla makes for a good planner and actor placement. Rohanna is good with editing and choosing the important segments of the takes. Her part although seems the hardest for someone like me who is not quite the best editor can be done wonderfully and effectively by someone who is in tune with editing like Rohanna.

Planning: Storyboard "Dear Mother"

A dysfunctional mother-daughter relationship is the subject of our short film. The first shot of the first scene is of the outside of a house, which sets the tone for Roxy and Ms. Jackie's home. The shot then moves on to the interior of the house. Roxy is shouted at by her mother about housework in the next scene, which is more focused on the performers' relationships. There is a close-up of food on the floor, which Roxy must clean up as part of her tasks. This scene shows her and her mother going back and forth. Her mother then goes to the bathroom in the next scene. Roxy receives a phone call from a friend, prompting Roxy to see her pal. The short film moves on to the next scene. This takes place in Emma's house, which is a friend of hers. They're in Emma's room, discussing Roxy's mother's treatment of her. The entire time they are chatting, this sequence is shot in two shots. Roxy receives a call from her mother, and her eyes begin to water. Emma's mot...

Short Film Research: ( Migrants/ Drama)

This short film was 8 minutes long and the plot was pretty easy to figure out basically there were polar bears being pushed out of their home lands due to global warming and exiled from brown bear territory being left to fend for themselves on the ocean. In the beginning of the short there was a climax point where the baby polar bear fell of the ice and into the water from the ice breaking and the mother jumps after the baby. This was a great way to start the film it immediately introduce the drama factor that a film should have lots of heart racing and anticipating moments. There was a conflict with the polar bears and the brown bears over food and the was another great way to help deliver a message. Although it is animated the film didn't use and real dialogue just animal noises such as grunts and snorts and well as instrumental music in the background.     It reminds me of how lonely many of us are. It can be interpreted as a political manifesto, ...

Genre Research: Romance & Drama

Romance is defined by intimate relationships. In some cases, there may be a twist but at the end the main point in films is about the pursuit of love. Romance is not only its own genre but can also be seen in other genres such as thriller, Comedy, Drama, etc. Common lighting usually seen in romance includes high key lighting in which makes the seen more cheerful due to the brightness and warm colored lighting to create an inviting and mellow mood. A close up shot is an example of camera angles that are seen in films.  It allows the audience to examine the characters face to see their feelings and emotions. Another common camera angle seen in romance films are over the shoulder shots. It captures the face expressions and body language. Common sounds heard in romance movies are usually diegetic and non diegetic. For example, a musical that has romance incorporated into it includes singing and it helps exaggerate the feelings the characters may have.  Sometimes there may be a sou...
