The images prioritized in the opening sequence were the character's bright red jacket which stood out in comparison to the plain colored background. The character was also seen carrying around a jug of what seemed to be juice which was also prioritized in the opening sequence.
The images were made to be almost 2D giving off a very diary, storybook theme. The connotations carried by these images would be boring almost dull, with a hint of life because of the brightness of the red jacket. The characters skin was paled in comparison to the jacket making her seem like a very dull character but the bright red kind of signaled dramatics. The film establishes a feeling of the genre from the outset by the dreary colorization of the character and background besides the bright red jacket. The color scheme creates a feeling of drama within the film letting the audience know what kind of tone will be carried on throughout the film.
The strategies used to ensure the film appeals to its target audience would have to be the carefree attitude of the character conveyed by their walk in the opening sequence of the film. This attitude appeals to the teenage audience where this kind of behavior is pretty typical and often popularized. Technology has been used effectively within this film to convey the dramatic attitude of a teen. The camera angles convey the character as small within a big town. The transitions almost Imitate drawings being erased leaving the audience to believe this is how the character portrays herself as a character with her own novel.
