Genre Research: The Hate U Give

Most people enjoy a good movie while others enjoy a good book. Some people enjoy fun animated movies while others enjoy ones that address issues and problems that go on in this world. These issues range from racism to climate change and pollution. The typical category that films like those fall under is drama. Ask yourself, what is the purpose of a Drama film? Maybe its just to entertain others or maybe its to bring awareness to other political and social problems. Most of the time the issues brought up are the ones people don't know about or disregard. After doing some research my teammates and I were able to find that the main purpose of most drama films is to express the need for social change, communicating a universal theme, recreating and interpreting information, ideas, and emotions. While still being entertaining and divert our attention from our everyday lives. A film that we felt best suited at least three of these categories is called The Hate U Give. This movie is about a main character named Starr who witnesses the fatal shooting of her childhood best friend Khalil at the hands of a police officer. After this tragedy she is facing pressure from all sides of the community leaving Starr to understand that she must find her voice and stand up for what's right. This movie started out as a novel by Angie Thomas that talked about a teenage girl who grapples with racism, police brutality, and activism. These are all examples of  what other people fight for under the categories of social change, interpreting information, and communicating universal themes their whole lives. The elements that we chose were plot, sound, and diction. This movie exhibited all three of these elements in the most perfect way possible. The storyline and plot was simple and to the point. While this is still true the sound used added the excitement and exhilaration you would want in such a powerful film. This leaves the audience craving more. It already has their attention as it continues to drawl them in deeper into the perspective of the main character. The diction provides an understanding in the film as to why she was perceived as a "white girl" due to her exceptional word choice and diction compared to the other teenagers in the film. It also allows her to get her point across in the film while speaker to another character who is considered her uncle as she ask him certain things that bring out where the true bias in society is. It allows the message to be brought out with a better understand of the wrong ways of what people use to distinguish the good people from the bad ones for all the wrong reasons. While still adding in the importance of the message they are able to use a certain choice of words that get the point of the entire film across. Sounds of all kinds are used to help exaggerate and help point out when a key point is made in the film. Although, it is a simple and straight forward message it still has a complex foundation to build off of in this film which is what makes it such a wonderful interpretation of the original best seller book. Elements of the genre in the movie that we did like include the exchange in dialogue, the projected soundtrack, and the climax of the movie. The dialogue used helps get the messages across while, the soundtrack provided the right mood setting for each filmed scene throughout the movie from beginning to end. I don't believe there were any elements that did not appeal to us in this movie however, knowing what was challenges were going on in the movie the way it ends leaves the audience wanting more with the cliffhangers for those who are more interested in the issues they face seeing as the problems were not solved and still continued on. This is where we believe a drama sequel should be provided but in many cases the director of the film may not make another in the future.

Production blog: Multiple Exposure discovery

So its been a while since the last update and things haven't gotten very far but there are some positives that have happened. We were able to pick a location that satisfied most of our needs with out the hassle of needing permission to film and be on park grounds. We thought to see if we could find more actors but it was harder than expected. Seeing as everyone would have to have their own transportation and our filming would have to fit into someone else schedule. This made it harder on us but we kept searching.       So we had someone but the plans ended up changing when that person was no longer available. We understood that sometimes circumstances change. So, now we are all just planning a day to set up and film. This consist of making sure we have the camera set and all phones charged. Also having battery packs for the camera ready.       We definitely can't forget mask for covid-19 protection. An lastly, its key to having a first aid kit on deck for the day to come an

Commercial Blog: Nike Vs. Under Amour Grand Finale

I thought I would be fine using the Nikkon D3200 camera as this laptop has an SD card slot but the problem I had was that my SD card didn't fit in the slot. During my editing is when I realize that I have another clothing brand appearing in the finished ad. So I took the opportunity the next day to tweak the film so that it finally shows the images of both brands in one to let others know that this is a collaborative promotion. The reason is that it allows a certain message to be shown in the ad. So from my imagination I was able to sum up a few last-minute moments and since one of the actors doesn't own anything from the Nike brand I made a little tweak to allow two different brands to co-exist in my ad.       The two brands I choose are Nike and Under Amour. I would leave it alone if I don't see the logo but I can recognize it on one of my actor's shirts while editing. I plan to dub or add music to the ad to make it fun while the ad continues. Each actor put in a lot

Genre Research: Romance & Drama

Romance is defined by intimate relationships. In some cases, there may be a twist but at the end the main point in films is about the pursuit of love. Romance is not only its own genre but can also be seen in other genres such as thriller, Comedy, Drama, etc. Common lighting usually seen in romance includes high key lighting in which makes the seen more cheerful due to the brightness and warm colored lighting to create an inviting and mellow mood. A close up shot is an example of camera angles that are seen in films.  It allows the audience to examine the characters face to see their feelings and emotions. Another common camera angle seen in romance films are over the shoulder shots. It captures the face expressions and body language. Common sounds heard in romance movies are usually diegetic and non diegetic. For example, a musical that has romance incorporated into it includes singing and it helps exaggerate the feelings the characters may have.  Sometimes there may be a sound played
